Resin Explained

You may not be familiar with resin surfacing but will have seen these products in everyday use without perhaps realising it. Resin surfacing has been around for over fifteen years in the UK and even longer in the United States. It can be seen on cycle paths, pavements, bus lanes and various highway projects. Using the same methods, we create extremely durable and attractive surfaces that give the effect of gravel without the drawbacks of weed growth, gravel movement and high levels of maintenance.

Resin surfacing has become more affordable over time due to increased competition from manufacturers. It is now available as a cost-effective option in a wide variety of colours and sizes. We install our resin products for both commercial clients and domestic customers. As well as the most popular applications such as driveways, patios and pathways, resin products can be used across a multitude of applications.

The list really is endless! There are two main types of resin surfacing, resin bound and resin bonded. Although similar in name they look and perform very differently.

Resin bound

This application mixes natural aggregate into a clear polymer resin with each aggregate particle coated in the resin. Once mixed, it is hand trowelled onto the base by our skilled and experienced team to create a smooth, permeable finish, allowing water to drain through the surface. Once fully cured, the surface is extremely durable and hardwearing. Different depths can be achieved depending on the use of the surface, making it suitable for almost any project. This application is SuDS compliant.

Resin bonded

This application uses a film of resin on the base surface with a layer of dry aggregate scattered on top of the resin until the resin is fully coated. Once cured any excess stone is cleared off leaving a textured, non-permeable finish, giving the appearance of loose gravel. This application is non-SuDS compliant.
